Oriental Rugs and rug repair

Oriental Rugs have a history dating back to 500 BC. Many of them last hundreds of years and become family heirlooms, passed down from generation to generation. However, they don’t last that long without obtaining some damage, so it is important that you take the proper steps and care when looking into Oriental rug repair.

You should try to move your oriental rug around from time to time so that the same areas of the rug are not walked on and worn down, similar to rotating the mattress on a bed. This is especially important if your oriental rug is in a heavy traffic area, such as a doorway where it will be walked on a lot.

You should also avoid exposing your rug to direct sunlight. This will cause the colors to fade and become washed out over time. Rug fringe repairs

Eating and drinking on the rug should be avoided. If something does spill on the rug, act fast before it settles in and dries. Use paper towels to blot and absorb the liquid. If necessary, you can apply warm water and blot until the stain is no longer visible, but do avoid rubbing the stain, because that can spread it around to a larger area as well as become more absorbed by the fabric. One of the biggest things you should avoid setting on your oriental rug are potted plants. These can leak and cause a lot of damage to the rug, as well as potentially bringing moth eggs and larvae into the area with your carpet.

The rug should be regularly vacuumed to keep dirt from getting caked into it. However, when vacuuming be careful around the fringes. The fringes are the most common part of the rug to get damaged and need professional repair.

In addition to the rotating and vacuuming that should be done, you should periodically have your Oriental rug professional cleaned. There are many companies that specialize in cleaning and restoration if necessary of oriental rugs.

The restoration of an oriental rug can be anything from something as simple and as common as putting fringes back together, or can go as far as re-weaving a very large area that has become worn over time. If a hole appears in a rug, it should be taken in for repair immediately, as it will only continue to grow. A professional Oriental rug repair firm can repair these, but they will need to reweave the rug. Most places will also be able to provide a moth treatment to the rug during a cleaning that will help prevent damage caused by moths as well as further infestation. Rug repair

Oriental rugs are made to last and to stand the test of time, but only if they are properly cared for. Thankfully, there are many Oriental rug repair shops out there to help you maintain and care for your rug. You will need to have your oriental rugs repaired at some point, which is just a fact of life and part of the overall maintenance of the rug that will help it last for generations to come.
