Some guidance on how to remove stains
Cleaning your Oriental rug is a task that you hopefully will not have to do much if you and everyone else in your home or office are careful not to spill anything to cause nasty stains that can often be a pain to remove. Luckily, there is hope if you do get the occasional coffee spill on that fabulous Persian rug you spent your hard earned money on. We definitely recommend that you find a professional rug or carpet cleaner to remove stains, but if you want a cheaper solution, read on.
Here's what you'll need to do to remove stains from your Oriental Rugs:
1. The first step is to get a dry towel or paper towel as soon as possible and use the paper towel to soak up as much of the stain as possible. The sooner you do this, the easier it will be to remove the stain. You don't want the stain to dry up as this would make it much more difficult to shift.
2. The next step is to dilute the spot by adding some water to the stain. The amount of water you should add depends on how big the spot is so add water accordingly. Make sure you don't soak the rug, unless it's necessary. Once again, use a towel or fresh paper towel to soak up as much liquid as possible. If the water doesn't seem to be doing the trick, try adding some white vinegar (1 tablespoon per cup of water).
We also recommend that you vacuum your Persian rug routinely to get rid of dust and other particles in the air that can change the natural colour and texture of your rug over time. Vacuuming your rug is a simple, one-every-two-weeks chore that shouldn't take more than 5 minutes of your time. Use your vacuum to gently move back and forth on the surface of the rug, making sure that you DO NOT VACUUM THE FRINGES. It is extremely important that you avoid the fringes of the rug because most vacuums are powerful enough to suck off the fringes!
